    Board of Trustees

Hartland Township is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees.  These Trustees are voted into office every four years and are responsible for the strategic direction of the Township.  Two of the Trustees, the Treasurer and the Clerk, are full-time employees of the Township with duties as outlined by Michigan law.  The remaining five Trustees, including the Township Supervisor, are part-time employees of the Township.

One Of My Favorite Places In Hartland
In 2000, my wife and I were looking for a small weekend getaway cottage to take our young children.  We were looking up north but came across a cottage on beautiful Round Lake in 2001 and we both fell in love with it. It is a privilege to live on the water and enjoy the birds, frogs, swans and especially our pontoon boat. A huge bonus it is like living up north but it is only three miles from work!

    Joseph Colaianne, Trustee

    Contact Joe by clicking here.

Joseph (Joe) Colaianne has been a resident of the Township for more than 15 years and has served on the Hartland Township Board of Trustees since 2004.  Colaianne was also a member of the Hartland Township Planning Commission from 2001 through 2004.  Colaianne has a long history of public service. For 20 years, Colaianne provided legal counsel to Oakland County and, recently, accepted the position of Corporation Counsel for the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority.

I count the development of both Settlers Park and Hartland Heritage Park as key accomplishments of the Board.  When I pass by Heritage Park and see hundreds of young athletes playing on the fields, I know that we have not only created a gathering place but have also demonstrated our Township’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities that are the hallmark of great communities.

    Matthew Germane, Trustee

    Contact Matt by clicking here.

Matthew (Matt) Germane has been a Hartland Township Trustee since 2011 and also served on the Township Planning Commission for six years. Germane comes from long line of Hartland Township leaders – his father served on the Township Board as Treasurer on two different occasions and his grandfather was a member of the Hartland Consolidated Schools Board.  Germane first became involved with the Township when he volunteered to serve on the Township Environmental Task Force Subcommittee.  His national experience as an environmental engineer was invaluable to the Task Force’s mission.  Germane’s family has owned and operated Hickory Hill Farm in Hartland since 1946 and, today, the fourth generation of Germanes work that land.

One Of My Favorite Places In Hartland
Some Of My Favorite Places In Hartland are the rural areas where there is still more open area than houses, especially the property where our farm is located.  The rolling hills, dotted with ponds, streams, and wetlands, songbirds, and wildlife is an ideal place to raise a family and be kind to your neighbors.

    Glenn Harper, Trustee

    Contact Glenn by clicking here.

Glenn Harper has been a Hartland Township Trustee and resident since 2008.  Harper retired as a Lieutenant from the Dearborn Police Department after 25 years of service.  He currently teaches criminal justice courses at Henry Ford Community College as well as crime scene photography at Schoolcraft College.  In addition to his responsibilities on the Township Board, Harper also serves on the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority. Glenn lives in Hartland Township with his wife of 36 years, Joann. Their family includes two adult sons, a daughter-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren.

My favorite place in Hartland Township is the Fire Hall because it represents the extraordinary and brave service of our firefighters.  I believe it is very important that, before you move into a community, you know that it has good emergency services.  Here in Hartland, we have great fire department with dedicated officers who work hard at helping people who live, work and drive through our community.

    Kathleen Horning, Treasurer

    Contact Kathie by clicking here

Kathleen (Kathie) Horning has been a Hartland Township resident since 1986 and the Township’s Treasurer since 2002. As a resident who believes in community involvement and volunteerism, Kathie is currently President of the Hartland Senior Center Advisory Committee, Historian in the newly-founded Hartland American Legion Ladies Auxillary and Co-Marketmaster of the Hartland Farmers Market since its inception. Horning has served in leadership positions for several area organizations, including the St. John Parish Council, Hartland Historical Society Board, the Cromaine Library Board, the Livingston Economic Development Council and the Livingston County Treasurers Association as well as scouting and school groups.

Historic Cromaine Library has been a central part of my family’s experience living in Hartland.  We visited the library all the time as my children grew – and my husband and I are still frequent patrons of the library.   This institution not only nurtures a love of reading, but also makes learning fun with its countless activities for the children in our community.

    Joseph Petrucci, Trustee

    Contact Joe by clicking here.

Joseph (Joe) Petrucci has served on the Hartland Township Board of Trustees since 2004 and has lived in the Township for 36 years.  Prior to joining the Board, Petrucci was a Planning Commission member for six years.  He also served in the Hartland Fire Department from 1991 through 1998 and, in fact, was a member of the Building Committee for the Parshallville Road Fire Station.  Petrucci founded the Hartland Soccer Club in 1989 and served as the organization’s first president until 1996.  His legacy in this regard is significant — the Hartland Soccer Club now has nearly 1000 young athletes playing each season.  Petrucci is a vice president at a local bank.

One Of My Favorite Places In Hartland
The Music Hall is one of the gems of our village.  Just think of the history that has taken place there.  In the mid 1800’s horse drawn carriages surrounded the building, bringing families together to a place of worship. In the early 1900’s, Model T’s lined the street with people going to a play or to a concert.  Now the Music Hall offers so many opportunities for entertainment and community gathering for this generation to enjoy. The Music Hall is one of Some Of My Favorite Places In Hartland because so many people have visited there and left with a smile on their face.   In the past 156 years I can only imagine of how many ideas were born in that building by groups of involved citizens.

    Larry Ciofu, Clerk

    Contact Larry by clicking here.

Larry is a longtime Hartland resident, having resided in the Township since 1988.  Larry joined the Board of Trustees in 2015, but is still perhaps best known  as the owner of Hartland Pizza — a Township landmark that closed in 2009.  Larry is also a member of Hartland Community Council where he has served as Treasurer since 2006.  Larry also acted as a director of the Hartland Area Chamber of Commerce from 2005-2009.  Larry was awarded the group’s Enterprise Award in 2006, Community Service Award in 2006 and the Member of the Year in 2007.

Settlers Park has been a beautiful addition to the Township.  It's wonderful to see people enjoying the park's natural beauty.  I'm particularly fond of the butterfly garden for two reasons.  First, the garden is dedicated to my friend and the former Clerk, the late Larry Hopkins.  Secondly, it's an example of the wonderful things that can happen in our community when people volunteer.  The Rotary Club installed the garden and keeps it looking pristine.
