Voting by Absentee Ballots

Absentee

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Complete and return the Absent Voter Ballot Application to the Clerk’s Office as early as possible. Applications are generally available 75 days prior to an Election and can be found here.

Take the time to double check your Absent Voter Ballot Application to make sure you properly filled out all sections and have signed the Application to avoid any delays in receiving your ballot.

Absent Voter Ballots cannot be forwarded per Election Law. If you are going to be out of town and need your Absent Voter Ballot sent to an alternate address, you must indicate this on your Absent Voter Ballot Application.

If you have already submitted your application to be on the permanent Absent Voter Ballot list, which automatically sends you a ballot at each election, then a ballot will be sent to the address you have on file with Hartland Township.

Absent Voter Ballots are generally mailed out to registered voters that have submitted a properly completed Absent Voter Ballot Application around 40 days prior to Election Day (for example, January 18, 2024 for the February 27, 2024 Presidential Primary Election).

When you receive your ballot, take the time to read the Ballot Instructions to make sure you have properly completed all sections of the ballot.

When you have voted, place your ballot in the Secrecy Sleeve and put the sleeve in the Ballot Return envelope. Seal this envelope and sign the envelope where indicated.

Your ballot will not be counted unless your signature is on the return envelope and matches your signature on file. If you received assistance voting the ballot, then the voter assistance box must also be filled out with the name, address and signature of the person who is assisting you.

Once you have decided on your ballot selections, you can fill out your ballot and return it at any time. Hartland Township residents have until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day to return their Ballot to the Clerk’s Office at 2655 Clark Rd., Hartland, MI 48353.  Ballots received after 8:00 p.m. on Election Day will NOT be counted per current election law.

You can track the progress of your Absentee Ballot on the Secretary of State Michigan Voter Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote
