Business-friendly Hartland Township urges Governor to reopen economy

Press Release

HARTLAND TOWNSHIP—Hartland Township’s Board of Trustees has approved a resolution asking Governor Whitmer and the Michigan legislature to make a coordinated effort to safely reopen the economy. The resolution highlights the need to balance measures taken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 while also considering the economic needs of the community and small business owners.

“During these challenging times, it is vitally important that we band together as a community,” says Board Supervisor Bill Fountain. “When it comes to slowing the spread of COVID-19, we’re in uncharted waters. We need to make a concerted effort to assess the healthcare crisis with the economic crisis we potentially face. Part of our response must consider the economic fallout of what might happen with extreme measures taken to slow the spread of this disease.”

The resolution acknowledges that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrust Michigan into a public health emergency that requires bold actions, but suggests that the restraints of Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-42 exceed clear guidance developed by health experts to mitigate the transmission of the virus.  It also suggests a phased opening on a county-by-county basis, where many businesses can follow recommended guidance and further mitigation practices while still avoiding activities that jeopardize the health of their employees and customers.

Hartland Township prides itself on living up to its “business-friendly, business-ready” slogan and backing businesses during these unprecedented times is one way they can support their current and potential business community.
