Hartland Township says goodbye to Township Manager James Wickman
HARTLAND TOWNSHIP – Following 13 years of dedicated service to Hartland, Township Manager James Wickman has announced his resignation. He will become the next Township Manager for Saginaw Charter Township.
Wickman joined Hartland as Township Manager in April 2007 after serving 2 years as Mayville’s Village Manager. He started his professional career as a police officer with Pittsfield Township near Ann Arbor.
“On behalf of our entire community, I would like to congratulate James on his exciting new adventure in Saginaw,” says Township Supervisor Bill Fountain. “James’ leadership assisted in many new programs in our community. He was integral in starting the Hartland Living program, which brings together the Cromaine Library, Hartland Chamber of Commerce, Hartland Consolidated Schools and Hartland Township to enhance our brand as a community. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him and his family the best!”
As Township Manager, Wickman brought a new emphasis to strategic planning, performance management, and the long-term vision for Hartland Township. As he worked to establish a strong organizational culture in the workplace, the township was able to see many projects through to completion, including a significantly improved bond rating, a “Safer Roads Plan”, and over 180 acres of new park and land development. And perhaps most notably, Wickman leaves Hartland on sound financial ground for pending economic impacts.
As he prepares to leave Hartland, Wickman thanks the Board, the Township staff, and community. “I would like to thank you all so much for your support as we worked together in making Hartland a little better day by day. It has been a pleasure to work with you all in our pursuit to be a township of excellence. We have achieved some great successes and overcome many challenges.”
Wickman’s last full day will be May 29.
