Hartland in Hindsight #9- Fire and Safety

HDFA

When it comes to the safety of our community members, Hartland Township stays proactive and responsive to changing needs in our growing town. Through integral community partnerships, along with valuable insight from citizen surveys, the Board seeks resident safety as a top priority among their many responsibilities.

Balancing safety, budget, criminal trends, and residents’ wishes can be a complex equation for a small-town that prioritizes protecting its citizens. Although financial constraints can be an impediment to offering our residents the police services found in larger municipalities, the Board continues to prioritize protection for citizens while exploring viable solutions for coming years.

Hartland’s Board of Trustees is committed to working with the county and our neighboring townships to bring the highest level of police protection to our residents. The Township requests and examines Hartland’s crime rate and police response data from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office on an annual basis. Safety-related decisions for the future of the township are based on these analyzed numbers.

The Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority has proven to be an indispensable asset to our community for many years. With their base right in heart of Hartland Township, manned 24/7, they are often the first point of contact in an emergency situation. And though you will find them whenever there is trouble, much of their energy is focused on fire prevention and education.

With a focus on Community Risk Reduction (CRR), our local firefighters aim to support our community with ongoing fire prevention education. Whether it’s a school assembly, public education forum, or a house visit to install fire alarms, the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority wants the community to know that they are here to serve and educate our residents while striving to keep Hartland a safe place to work and live.

“Our relationship with the Township is a true partnership,” says Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority’s Fire Inspector Jenn Whitbeck. “Whether it’s working with the Planning Department to ensure new businesses have everything they need to get up and running to code, to working on messaging about fire safety and prevention for our residents. We are here to support the services of the Township as they champion and support our mission.”

And with constant evaluation, along with enhancing partnerships between local fire and law enforcement, Hartland Township strives to be the place you feel safe and are happy to call “home”.
